Feature Versions

When you create an environment, you select the feature version to use for that environment and for all deployments created for the environment.

A feature version allows you to decide when an existing environment and all of its deployments gain access to newer features that might require additional permissions in your cloud service provider account or that might require a restart of engines belonging to the deployments.

When you change the feature version for an existing environment, you are informing the StreamSets platform that you have made the required permission changes and are okay with a possible restart of the engines. In exchange, that environment and its deployments gain access to newer features that were previously not available.

Each feature version includes all features available in previous feature versions, as well as additional new features.

When creating a new environment, StreamSets recommends using the latest feature version. When a new feature version is available, StreamSets recommends changing your existing environments to use the new feature version as soon as possible. In addition, an organization administrator might want to update the default feature version for that environment type.

When needed, you can change an existing environment to use a previous feature version. However, changing to a previous feature version disables any newer features not available in the selected feature version.

Each environment type offers different feature versions. For detailed information about the feature versions available for each environment type, including how to change the feature version, see the following topics:

Configuring Default Feature Versions

The organization properties determine the default feature versions to use for new environments. When a new feature version is available, an organization administrator might want to update the default feature version for that environment type. StreamSets does not automatically update the default feature version for existing organizations.

For example, when the AWS_2023_12_15 feature version is available and a user in an existing organization creates a new AWS environment, that environment continues to default to the initial AWS feature version. The user can select from all available feature versions; however, an organization administrator might want to update the default feature version to the latest version.

  1. In the Navigation panel, click Manage > My Organization.
  2. Click Advanced to configure advanced organization properties.
  3. For the appropriate Default <environment type> Feature Version property, select the default version to use.
  4. Click Save.
